BAKER GENEALOGY

The following ancestry of Edward Baker, born 1772 Franklin Co., VA, is said to exist in defunct church records in Washington Co., TN (Baptist?) and Franklin Co., VA, (Quaker) as well as bible transcriptions now held by a descendent of Edward/Susannah Mullins.

I have not personally viewed the source documentation for any of the following information. It was received via a typed letter 4 January 2002.
NOTE: Some of Edward Baker's descendents migrated to Davis, Page and Taylor Counties in Iowa, as well as Worth and Nodaway Counties in Missouri.

[Family bible transcripts and other family records]
Two Quaker brothers, Edward and Joseph Baker, moved from Amelia Co., VA to the northwestern part of Pittsylvania County that, in 1776, became Henry County and, in 1785, Franklin Co. Not long afterward came cousins Edward, Robert, William, and Richard Baker (non-Quakers) to other areas of Pittsylvania County. Records did not indicate the parentage of any of the six men mentioned.

Edward Baker (b. 1749) and wife apparently dead by 1803. The youngest accountable children, Lovell and Mary, lived with brother Edward and family when Edward moved to Washington Co., TN in about 1803-04. Stanleys, Mullins and Baker cousins were already living there. Mary and Lovell married there within a short time. Edward and family, along with young Andrew, returned to Franklin County, VA where Edward lived out his life. Lovell removed to Georgia and Mary remained in Washington Co., TN.

Whether he moved there immediately, then returned a short time later to Washington Co., is uncertain. He possibly remained in Washington Co., until as late as 1804. At least two sons, Joshua (1799) and John (1803), and two daughters, Lidia (1803) and Prissy (1804), married in Washington Co.
